In my life, nothing has quite eclipsed the power of women.
My mom has been a powerful inspiration, and I’m grateful for her influence. My maternal grandmother, a farm wife, insisted that her daughters were educated – long before girls commonly went to university, and my father was always a testament to how strongly my paternal grandmother believed that men and women are different - and equal. Be it family, friends, co-workers, teachers, neighbours, classmates…or images of women in the public eye…I’ve been deeply affected by the power of individual women.
Over the past several years, there’s been a lot of discussion around women’s role in creating the future of our world. The Dalai Lama famously proclaimed that “the world will be saved by the Western woman." Who can doubt that this is true? It’s already happening. And not just through “Western” women. Women all over the world are rising up to leadership in response to the burning social, economic and environmental issues currently facing our world. We are each called to become the designers of a radically improved future culture. To do this, we need to imagine original and inventive ideals for leadership – new ideals that will work in our ever-changing and fast-paced society. And we need to do this together.
“Only through a sincere leap of faith, taken by a collective of individuals wholeheartedly committed to the deeper evolution of consciousness for all, will we ever find the freedom and creativity necessary to foster new and innovative solutions for the immense global challenges now confronting us.”
~ Women on the Edge of Evolution
For the vast majority of human history, women have come together through circles where we relate to one another on a nurturing plane. And the greater part of our care has been brought on by an intrinsic desire to create well-being and sanctuary for our loved ones, rather than to nurture and develop our own selves, the promise of our own lives, or other women who wish to grow. In a world that men have designed with processes, regulations and social standards that men naturally understand, women have been left to work on ourselves - by ourselves - for a long, long time. And we have.
But, it's my opinion that becoming who we are on our own isn’t working as well as it could. There's no doubt that individual effort is worth a great deal, however, I believe that our highest potential will be reached when we develop confidence in the strength of collaboration, shared inspiration and partnership. Through a bonded sisterhood, we can realize our greater combined potential, growing together into the natural co-leadership of a genuinely emancipated and actualized future.
For women to bring real change to our world, it will require a collaborative sisterhood.
Imagine the natural power we could bring to the table.
Just imagine.
